International Board of Auditors for NATO (IBAN)

The International Board of Auditors (IBAN) is NATO's supreme auditing body and is a part of its civil structure. Established in 1953, IBAN performs financial and performance audits of NATO bodies and those relating to expenditure under NATO's common-funded infrastructure programme. IBAN is among others composed of representatives of SAIs of NATO's Member States. Members of IBAN have an independent status and are selected and paid by their respective states. They are appointed for a four year term by the Council to which they are also accountable. The SAO is not permanently represented in IBAN; nevertheless, its auditors regularly attend meetings concerning discussions on the annual report on the activities of IBAN.
