PRESS RELEASE – October 27, 2016

The Contact Committee is an assembly of the heads of the supreme audit institutions (SAIs) in the EU Member States. Annual meetings of the Contact Committee are organized in order to discuss key problems and up-to-date issues related to the external audit in EU Member States and other EU-related issues.

This year’s meeting took place on October 19–21 in Bratislava, Slovakia. Along with representatives from the Member States’ SAIs, top representatives of candidate states were invited too. Main topics of this year’s meeting were EU energy policy and climate changes. A seminar was organized to inform the participants about audits and other activities of the SAIs, which aimed at transposition of EU legislative into national legal frameworks and measurements implemented by EU Member States that dealt with energy savings and their impact on the environment. Delegates from the Supreme Audit Office of the Czech Republic (SAO) gave a presentation entitled “Energy Savings“, which informed about results of the SAO’s audit operation No. 15/02 – “State budget funds provided for support of energy savings”.

Other topics discussed at the meeting included the outcomes of the Working Groups, which aimed at tax evasions, EU Structural Funds, the Europe 2020 strategy, and the development of European accounting standards for management of public funds. Audit institutions presented their experience with audits of infrastructural projects, which were co-funded from the EU funds, as well as audits of affixing the “CE” marking to products, which declares that the product is in conformity with all applicable requirements on the basis of the EU directives.
