Annual meeting of the Contact Committee in Lithuania

On October 10–11, 2013, the annual meeting of representatives of supreme audit institutions of EU countries and European Court of Auditors took place in Vilnius, Lithuania.
On the meeting agenda were outcomes of working groups, which had been established by the Contact Committee, as well as new goals for the future period. Individual working groups focused on the EU financial management for the period 2014–2020. Representatives of supreme audit institutions of EU countries discussed the changes to the EU financial management, which would influence working conditions of individual SAIs. The related problems included external auditing developments related to the Eurozone financial crisis period and changing roles of the SAIs.
Among the guest speakers at the seminar dedicated to the latest developments were Mr. Algirdas Šemeta, a Lithuanian economist and the European Commissioner for Taxation and Customs Union, Audit and Anti-Fraud, and Mr. Gediminas Mesonis, a justice of the Lithuania Constitutional Court who is concerned with the independence of SAIs.
